Series offered both in-person and online at 9 a.m., May 8, 15 & 22. This series looks at the turbulent landscape of Judea, and in the life of Jesus. Through the works of John Yoder, Marcus Borg, John Crosson, and ancient sources, we will explore how a time and place of rebellion, repression, and empire still has meaning for our lives today. Sessions build on each other.
- May 8: “Destroy this Temple” A historical overview of insurrection from the Maccabean Revolt through the First Jewish-Roman War
- May 15: “For this I was born” Gospel events and teachings from the life of Jesus as subversion of the ruling socio-political-economic system
- May 22: “I will send you the Advocate” The role of the prophets and the church in publically calling for justice and people-centered public policy
